Unfortunately, we all come across someone who claims to be teaching Biblical truths but is actually causing more harm than good. Hutchings' book is a perfect example of this. The 104 pages of poorly written prosperity-focused teaching reflects the message of HLCC. There is a surprising lack of Christian orthodoxy. In total agreement with B. Langdon, I encourage you to stay away from this book and these kind of teachings. Jesus died for more than your pay check. May we glorify God instead of ourselves.
My wife received a free copy of this from the Higher Life Christian Centre in Sussex. The apostle Paul and Jesus publicly called out those who taught a false gospel and I believe that it is still applicable today to do the same. I was not far into the book (page 4) when I read the first of several false and damning teachings. Mr. Hutchings starts with a complete misapplication of Jeremiah 2911 regarding how God has success planned for us. Many prosperity teachers use this same verse as their life verse, but we must not take verses out of context to support unbiblical ideas. This verse is clearly a multigenerational promise given to the nation of Israel and it is a corporate (meaning it has plural, not individual application) promise made to a specific people at a specific time and at a specific place.
This is just the beginning of several examples of twisting Scripture and ignoring clear understandings of passages. I clearly read this book page by page and made notes with Bible verses to dismiss many false teachings. There were many examples of where assertions were made but no reference to verses to support it. For example, on page 9 the author states "Fear can remove His legal right to protect you, answer you, supply you, & promote you!". In other places, where the teachings of Scripture has been clearly understood for almost two thousand years the author puts his own personal spin on it. For example, the Parable of the Sower in which the author even twists this passage in light of Christ's own commentary on His parable.
The main theme of the book is in laymen's terms What can I get out of God? How can I discover the financial gains that God has in store for me? The author even blasphemes the name of our wonderful Saviour by suggesting that the finished work of Christ on the Cross restores us to prosperity. These are pharisaical teachings and is a system of works where you earn the favour of God.
Please do not buy this book and flee from these teachings. These are doctrines of the demons and will lead you away from a relationship with a true and holy God not a god created by this author. Please compare these teachings with the whole of the Bible and read the warnings regarding desire of money. Christ was not rich (Zech. 99; Corinth. 89; Philip. 26-8; Luke 958) and His teachings regarding money (Matt. 619-24; Luke 1216-21; Matt. 1322; Luke 161-9) fly in the face of what you will read in this book. Flee from this book and his false doctrines and stay as far away as possible.
This book has helped not only myself, but my friends and family as well. What is great about this book is that everything that is mentioned is backed up by scripture. I mean, the majority of this book is scripture, which helps us see that what is said in this book is true. If it's not in the bible, it isn't true. I understand that a lot of scripture in the Bible may be directed to the people of that time (thousands of years ago) but it is also for us today! We just need to put it into today's circumstances and situations. I don't think, as a community, we would get together and stone a woman caught in adultery because #1. I think with today's world there would be more adulterers then there would be the ones throwing the stones and #2 like in the Bible, we don't have the right to judge someone who has sinned for we have all sinned! The way we would have to look at this story in today's world would be; if you see or hear of someone who is sinning, don't judge them. If you are the one caught sinning and realize what it was you have sinned about, know what God forgives and ask Him for it and when you receive your forgiveness go forth and sin no more, like what Jesus said to the woman caught in adultery.
The chapter about money made so much sense! It cleared up my misunderstanding about money in the church!
Anywho! all in all, GREAT book! Totally recommend it to anyone and everyone!!!
The information in this book will do you NO GOOD if you just read it. Read it, digest it, put into practice - that is what will make the difference!
