I have a huge problem with Darcy Coates. So far, I've read five of her books and they all have the same flaws: no in-dept character development. These books are all so shallow that you can't possibly connect with them. I paid $12.99 for Ghost Camera as a paperback copy and I will forever regret that decision. I give this book two stars because of the cover, which is nice, and because of the ending paragraph, which was nicely written. I think Darcy has potential but her stories are very linear and short. This was a 120 page book that was not worth the time wasted. It was an interesting idea but it sucked and no one is going to pay me back $12.99 for this crappy book. This is a highschool short story that should've never been published! What a nightmare. I'm giving up on her books. This is the last one for me.Product details

Ghost Camera edition by Darcy Coates Mystery Thriller Suspense eBooks Reviews
I enjoyed this book very much. It was about a camera and ghosts just as the title indicates. I've picked up books thinking it's a ghost story but to my dismay ghosts play a very small part in it and it turns out to be a love story. Anyway, I gave this book 4 stars because it was well written and kept to the storyline extremely well. It kept its focus on the main characters, the camera and the ghosts. However, I like closure and even though the author was good with details, I wanted to know more about the ghost boy even though the story wasn't about him. I wanted to know how and why he could accomplish what the expert couldn't. The possible reason given at the end of the book was just that, a possible answer. I'd recommend this book to anyone who enjoys ghost stories.
Wow! If you have read any of Darcy Coates' other stories, you may have felt like you needed more because many of the endings are incomplete, indeterminate...Nevertheless, this is most certainly not one of those books. Just think back to when you went exploring and found something that you thought was so interesting and useful that you just 'had' to pick it up. This book may just make you think twice, especially if it involves a camera. As you read this book, you are immersed into the seemingly normal life of Jenine, an aspiring college student. But once Jenine finds an old Polaroid camera in a lighthouse and begins snapping pictures, she opens herself up for attack by ghosts. Apparently, Jenine has found a 'ghost camera', and each time she naively takes a picture, she becomes the object of the ghosts' fascination and they are unyielding. They want her, and won't stop until they get her. Even when she and her florist friend seek assistance from someone who has knowledge of the device and the inevitable outcome, her life just spins out of control.
I read this book in a very short amount of time because it immediately captured my attention and kept it. I had to know how it was going to end, and I did not stop until I was finished. It's an easy and fast read; nevertheless, I didn't find that I was lacking any essential information when I got to the end of the book. Enjoy!
Loved it! Love Darcy Coates! She writes a story that hooks you quickly and holds you steady. Every time I read one of her stories I feel like I'm right there with the characters running for my life!
She really makes you wonder about these innocent looking things. I had one of these nifty little devices back in the day. The wonderful instant Polaroid camera. Loved that thing! It was like "visual toast."
But what happens when something additional develops on film that wasn't in the shot? Weird shadows and blurs. Yeah it happens, but Darcy Coates goes one step beyond and it's a hair raising experience for friends Jenine and Bree as they fight to keep ahead of the quickly approaching ghosts they've captured on film.
Taking one or two photos might've been okay, but the "what if" factor is too much to resist and now their fates are sealed. Even a well respected "ghostbuster" can't help them now.
Can you really out run an angry ghost? How about hundreds?
If you are looking for something to scare you half to death, this story is for you. But don't read it late at night. Janine has found a Polaroid camera left in an abandoned lighthouse, which she soon believes may have been left by a young boy who fell to his death years before. When she takes a sample picture, there appears to be ghosts intermingling with the subjects of the picture. She shows the picture to her best friend Bree, and the two of them locate more film and take a total of nine more pictures, all containing spirits. A paranormal expert shocks them with a fact no one who has ever taken a picture with a "ghost camera" has ever lived more than a few days following their use of the camera. Suddenly they are being stalked by the angry spirits in the photos.
I am not usually a fan of horror books, but this piece deftly mixes in a tantalizing blend of supernatural and has me actually considering hunting for more books within the genre. Ghosts are always creepy and author Darcy Coates doesn’t censure herself from describing every gory, gruesome detail, straight down to the ghosts of children who obviously met with grizzly fates. And the ghost do indeed come to life upon the pages of the book, staring at the audience out of the photographs, reaching out to invade nightmares and waking imagination as one reads this short story. It even delves into the occult as it calls upon experts in the field such as an investigator and, of course, the all-knowing internet. It has enough realism to ground Jenine and Bree as real characters in a typical modern world (though, yes, Jenine, didn’t seem to have much of a personality being that she was shy, so she just really went along with whatever the ghosts or Bree did). The story didn’t lag or meander at any point, and held my attention fully as I breezed through it.
I would recommend this to anyone looking for a good, chilling, creepy story while not venturing into the territory of the teen slashers that just rely on blood, guts, gore, and gross-out factor of how many body parts they can slice and dice.
I have a huge problem with Darcy Coates. So far, I've read five of her books and they all have the same flaws no in-dept character development.
